Spooner Industries manufactures a wide range of equipment for the drying, curing, cooling and non-contact handling of coated webs. Our equipment is designed to maximise performance and energy efficiency, whilst maintaining excellent web handling and runnability characteristics. In addition, Spooner offers proven de-carbonisation solutions, with alternative heat sources available for our products and for retrofit to existing systems. Spooner product lines include: - Air Flotation Dryers - Air Impingement Dryers - Through Air Dryers (TAD) - Air Turns - Web Coolers - Heat Recovery Systems - De-Carbonisation Solutions

Air Flotation Dryers

Our wide range of Air Flotation Dryers offer complete non-contact operation with excellent web stability, uniform and high heat transfer. From lightweight paper to heavy packaging board, or highly porous material, our dryers are designed to successfully handle any process application.

Air Impingement Dryers

Spooner Air Impingement Dryers provide uniform and precise heat transfer to one or both sides of the product, with product transportation provided by rollers or a conveyor. Single sided air impingement dryers with driven roller support are typical for coated packaging board drying applications.

Through Air Dryers (TAD)

Utilised for highly porous materials, the TAD forces heated air through the product whilst it is supported on a travelling conveyor, achieving very high heat transfer and very even airflow and temperature distribution. Drying and curing of binder applied to a wet-laid glass fibre sheet is a typical application for our TAD systems.

Air Turns

Spooner invented the Air Turn in the early 1980’s to allow a coated substrate to be turned without contact through a given angle on the coated side of the sheet. Our Air Turns provide stable operation without wrinkle formation or edge flutter, ensuring excellent runnability. Spooner Air Turns are available in a wide range of radii and web turning angle to suit any paper industry application.

Web Coolers

Utilising Spooner’s range of air Flotation and impingement systems, our Web Coolers deliver high performance, non-contact cooling with superior web handling. Our coolers can operate with an ambient or chilled air supply and can also be configured to offer dual cooling and drying functions. Applications include cooling coated packaging board and fluff pulp prior to reel-up.

Heat Recovery Systems

All Spooner dryers can incorporate a Heat Recovery system to increase energy efficiency. An air-to-air heat exchanger is typically used to transfer energy from the dryer exhaust to the fresh air that is required for the drying process. Further heat recovery is also possible, e.g. energy recovery to water. Spooner heat recovery systems can be retrofitted to existing drying systems.

De-Carbonisation Solutions

Spooner has a long history supplying air drying and curing systems utilising non-fossil fuel derived heat sources, e.g. steam, thermal oil and electricity. De-carbonisation of existing high temperature gas heated dryers requires a high temperature alternative such as electric heating or hydrogen heating (availability of hydrogen supply permitting). Spooner can supply high capacity (Megawatt scale) non-fossil fuel derived heat sources with new drying systems or as a retrofit to an existing gas heated system. Hybrid systems, e.g. gas and electric are also available.
